Most golfers will pick a sand wedge to use when they are very close to the green. Try using an eight iron with a putting stroke choking down on the club with the ball back in your stance and your hands and weight being forward. Land the ball closer to the edge of the green. The ball will fly lower,roll more and you will be able to take the club back shorter thus causing better contact.
The only time you should ever use a sand wedge is when you have a tighter pin and need to stop the ball quickly.
